The Roofer design on a phone: an example roofer’s website with a call line at the top
An example roofer's site on Setout, in the Roofer design: "Roof leaking? Call us" at the top and a roof survey to book. Built for you, and you see it before you pay.

Roofing customers are wary, and they have reason to be. They can't see the work, they've heard the stories and the job costs hundreds or thousands of pounds. Before they ring a roofer, they look for proof: photos of real roofs, reviews from people nearby, a guarantee in writing and someone who'll come and look before naming a price.

Setout builds you a website that shows all of that, on a design made for roofers. "Roof leaking? Call us" sits at the top with your number. Customers book a roof survey online at a time that suits them, and you get it by email. Your photos, your reviews and your guarantee do the persuading. You see the whole site on your phone before you pay a penny.

What every roofer's website needs

Whoever builds your website, these seven things win a roofer the job. Use them as a checklist for the site you have now.

  1. Photos of real roofs you have done

Nothing persuades like the work itself. Take a photo before you start and another when you finish, from the same spot, and say what you did and where: "Re-slated a terrace in Cardiff, original slates kept where sound."

On Setout: Your photos go in a gallery on your site, added from your phone. On several designs each job can have its own case study page.

  2. A free survey, easy to book

Most roofing jobs start with a look. Make that the easy first step: offer a survey, say whether it's free and let people pick a time without a round of phone tag.

On Setout: The Roofer design has a "Book a free roof survey" form on the page. Or make surveys a bookable service: customers pick a time and get a confirmation and an email reminder.

  3. Your guarantee, in plain words

Say how long your guarantee lasts, what it covers and whether it's insurance-backed, so it still holds if you stop trading. A guarantee customers understand is worth more than a long one they don't.

On Setout: Your guarantee goes in your own words wherever you want it on the page, and you can change it yourself.

  4. Your scheme memberships

If you're registered with Competent Roofer, say so. It lets you self-certify re-roofing work under the Building Regulations in England and Wales, which saves your customer a building control fee. NFRC and TrustMark membership are worth showing too.

On Setout: Add your memberships in the editor and they show in a strip at the top of your site.

  5. What your price includes

Customers compare quotes line by line. Say whether your price includes scaffolding, skip hire and clearing up. The cheapest quote sometimes leaves one of them out.

On Setout: Each service has its own price and description, and can have a page of its own that Google can find, such as "flat roof repair Swansea".

  6. A call button for leaks

A leak at 10pm is an emergency to the person under it. Put your number at the top of every page as a button that rings you when tapped, and say whether you do emergency call-outs.

On Setout: Every design shows your number as a tap-to-call button, and the emergency call-out bar puts your number and the area you cover across the top of every page.

  7. Real reviews, from nearby

A review from someone two streets away beats twenty from nowhere. Ask for a Google review when the scaffolding comes down, and put the best on your site with a first name and a town.

On Setout: You add reviews to your site in a minute. After an online booking, Setout can email the customer a link to leave you a Google review.

Questions roofers ask us

How quickly can you build a website for my roofing business?

Usually within a couple of days of our call. Send us photos of your work, your services, your guarantee and the towns you cover. You see the site on your phone before you pay anything.

Can customers book a roof survey online?

Yes. Add surveys as a service, free or priced, with how long they take. Customers pick a time, you get the booking by email and they get a confirmation and an email reminder.

Can I show before-and-after photos?

Yes. Add photos to your gallery from your phone, and write a line under each saying what you did and where.

I already get work from Checkatrade or a Facebook page. Do I need a website as well?

Keep them both. Directories send you enquiries and Facebook keeps regulars in touch, but neither is yours. A website on your own address is where Google sends people who search for your trade and town, where a customer checks you out before they ring and where enquiries come straight to you with no fee per lead. Your Facebook page and your website can link to each other.

Can I keep my existing web address?

Yes. We connect the address you already have to your new site. If you don't have one, we register one for you, and it's included while you subscribe.

What does it cost, and is there a contract?

£39 a month including VAT, or £390 for the year. That's for the whole business, with hosting, security and your web address included, and no setup fee. There's no contract, so you can cancel any time, and if it isn't right for you we'll refund your first payment in full within 30 days. You pay nothing at all until your site is live.

Tell us about your business. We'll build your site and send you the link to see it before you pay.

We'll call you the same working day, weekdays, if you ask before 3pm. Ask after 3pm or at the weekend and we'll call you the next working day. There's nothing to pay until your site is live.
