The Studio design on a phone: an example salon website with three booking steps
An example salon site on Setout, in the Studio design: choose a service, choose a stylist, pick a time. Built for you, and you see it before you pay.

A salon's diary is its business. Every gap is money, and every client who can't find a time online at 10pm is a client who books somewhere else. They want to choose the service, the stylist and the time themselves, and to know what it will cost before they sit down.

Setout builds your salon that website. Clients choose a service, then a stylist or any stylist, then a time. Every service books for its real length, so a full head of colour only goes into a gap it fits. You get the booking by email, they get a confirmation and an email reminder and each stylist can log in to see their own bookings. It's £39 a month including VAT for the whole team. Setout takes no commission, and you see it on your phone before you pay a penny.

What every hair salon's website needs

Whoever builds your website, these seven things keep a salon's diary full. Use them as a checklist for the site you have now.

  1. Booking by service, stylist and real length

A cut and blow-dry might take an hour; balayage, three. Online booking has to know the difference, or your diary fills with appointments that don't fit.

On Setout: Each service has its own length and price. Clients choose a stylist or any stylist, and only see times that fit.

  2. Prices that explain themselves

Colour prices depend on length and thickness. Say what changes the price, and give a starting figure for each service, so nobody gets a shock at the till.

On Setout: Each service has its own description and price, and can have its own page on your site, such as "balayage Manchester".

  3. Patch tests, made bookable

Hair colour makers tell you to do a skin allergy test before colouring, usually 48 hours ahead. Make it a short appointment new colour clients book first, and say so on the page.

On Setout: Make the patch test its own short service, so clients book it in the same few taps.

  4. Consultations for the big changes

Colour corrections, extensions and big restyles go better after a chat. Offer a free consultation and make it easy to book.

On Setout: Make the consultation a bookable service, free or priced, with the stylist of their choice.

  5. Your team, and what each one does

Clients choose a stylist for their colour skills or their curly-hair cuts. A photo and a line about each one helps them pick. If prices differ by stylist level, list them as separate services so nobody is surprised.

On Setout: Clients pick who they see when they book, and each stylist can log in to see their own bookings.

  6. Fewer no-shows and late cancellations

Send a reminder, and set a clear notice period for changes. Put the policy on your website so it's agreed before anyone books.

On Setout: Clients get an email reminder and can cancel or move online up to your cut-off. Card deposits aren't available yet; payment is in person, by bank transfer, PayPal or a payment link.

  7. Products, gift cards and reviews

Retail and gift cards are easy extra income, and reviews from happy clients bring the next ones in.

On Setout: Sell products and gift cards from your own site. After an online booking, Setout can email the client a link to leave you a Google review.

How it works

  1. Tell us about your business

Fill in the form below. We'll call you the same working day, weekdays, if you ask before 3pm. Ask after 3pm or at the weekend and we'll call you the next working day. Send us your current website or Facebook page, a few photos, your services and the area you cover. One phone call is usually enough.

  2. We build it

We build your site on a design made for hair salons, with your services, your area, your reviews and a way for customers to reach you. It's usually ready within a couple of days.

  3. You see it on your phone before you pay

We send you a private link. Look at it on your phone, show it to whoever you like and tell us what to change. You pay nothing until it goes live.

Questions hair salons ask us

How quickly can you build a website for my salon?

Usually within a couple of days of our call. Send us your price list, your team, your hours and a few photos. You see the site on your phone before you pay anything.

Does the price go up as the team grows?

No. It's £39 a month including VAT for the whole salon, however many stylists you have, and Setout takes no commission on any booking.

Can clients pay a deposit by card when they book?

Not yet. Today clients pay in person, by bank transfer, PayPal or a payment link, and you mark bookings as paid.

Can I keep using Fresha or another app while I switch?

Yes. Leave existing appointments where they are and send clients to your new booking link for anything new. Our Fresha comparison page explains the switch step by step.

Yes. Sell gift cards from your own site, and clients spend them when they book.
