The Pack & Paws design on a phone: an example dog walker’s website
An example dog walker's site on Setout, in the Pack & Paws design: friendly, with how a meet and greet works up front. Built for you, and you see it before you pay.

Owners don't hand their dog and their door key to just anyone. Before they get in touch with a dog walker, they look for someone local, insured and kind, with photos of happy dogs and a clear idea of how walks work. Then they want to meet you before the first walk.

Setout builds you that website, on a design made for dog walkers. Your walks and prices are on the page, along with how you keep dogs safe and owners posted. Owners book a free meet and greet online, and get an email reminder the day before. You see the whole site on your phone before you pay a penny.

What every dog walker's website needs

Whoever builds your website, these seven things win a dog walker new regulars. Use them as a checklist for the site you have now.

  1. A meet and greet first

Owners want to see how their dog takes to you before they hand over a key. Make the first step a free meet and greet at their home, and say what happens at it.

On Setout: The Pack & Paws design explains your meet and greet step by step. Make it a bookable service, and owners pick a time online.

  2. How many dogs, and for how long

Say how many dogs you walk at once and how long walks last. Some councils limit how many dogs one person can walk in parks and public spaces, so check your local rules and say you follow them.

On Setout: Make group walks a class with a set number of places, and owners see how many are left when they book.

  3. Insurance and first aid

Say that you're insured, including cover for dogs in your care, and whether you hold a pet first aid certificate or a DBS check. It's what careful owners ask first.

On Setout: Your insurance and certificates go in your about section and, on designs with a highlights strip, in a line of badges across the page.

  4. The right licence, if you need one

Dog walking doesn't need a council licence in England, but dog day care and home boarding do. If you offer either, show your licence and its star rating.

On Setout: Each service you offer has its own description, so the licence sits next to the service it covers.

  5. How you look after keys

Say how keys are stored and labelled. Coded, never with an address and locked away is the answer owners hope to read.

On Setout: Your own wording goes anywhere on your page, and you can change it yourself.

  6. Prices and the area you cover

Solo walks, group walks, puppy visits, drop-ins: list the prices, and name the streets, villages or postcodes you cover.

On Setout: Each service has its own price and can have its own page on your site. The Pack & Paws design lists the areas you cover, and we put your area in your page title ("Dog walker in Harrogate") so Google can see where you work.

  7. Booking that suits regulars

Most dog walking is regular, the same days every week. Agree the pattern at the meet and greet, and make one-off extras easy to book.

On Setout: Owners can book walks online one at a time, you can add bookings yourself and you can send a regular a link to book their next walk. Repeat bookings aren't automatic yet.

Questions dog walkers ask us

How quickly can you build a website for my dog walking business?

Usually within a couple of days of our call. Send us your walks and prices, a few photos of dogs you walk (with their owners' permission) and the area you cover. You see the site on your phone before you pay anything.

Can owners book a meet and greet online?

Yes. Make it a free service. Owners pick a time, you get the booking by email and they get a confirmation and an email reminder.

Can I limit how many dogs go on a group walk?

Yes. Set the number of places for each walk, and owners see how many are left when they book.

Do regular walks book themselves every week?

Not yet. Owners book walks one at a time, or you add them yourself or send a link to book the next one.

Most of my clients come by word of mouth. Do I need a website?

Word of mouth brings the best clients, and many of them look you up before they get in touch. A website on your own address is what they find: what you do, what it costs, who you are and how to book. It's also where Google sends people who search for what you do in your town.

What does it cost, and is there a contract?

£39 a month including VAT, or £390 for the year. That's for the whole business, with hosting, security and your web address included, and no setup fee. There's no contract, so you can cancel any time, and if it isn't right for you we'll refund your first payment in full within 30 days. You pay nothing at all until your site is live.

Tell us about your business. We'll build your site and send you the link to see it before you pay.
