The Fernfield design on a phone: an example gardener’s website with a call button
An example gardener's site on Setout, in the Fernfield design: friendly and green, with a call bar that stays on screen as customers scroll. Built for you, and you see it before you pay.

A good gardener fills their week with regulars: the same gardens, every week or fortnight, from spring to autumn. Many of them find their gardener on a phone one sunny Saturday: they look at a few websites and choose the one with photos of tidy gardens and a clear way to get in touch.

Setout builds you that website, on a design made for gardeners. Your services and prices, from a fortnightly visit to a one-off clearance, each have their own page. Customers book visits online and get an email reminder the day before, and enquiries land in your email the moment they're sent. You see the whole site on your phone before you pay a penny.

What every gardener's website needs

Whoever builds your website, these seven things turn a one-off job into a regular customer. Use them as a checklist for the site you have now.

  1. Regular visits and one-off jobs, priced separately

Say what a regular visit includes and what it costs, then list the one-off work: hedge cutting, clearances, turfing, planting. Regulars are your steady income, so make that option the easiest to say yes to.

On Setout: Each service has its own price and description, and can have its own page on your site, such as "garden maintenance Harrogate".

  2. Your waste carrier registration

If you take garden waste away, you need to be registered as a waste carrier with the Environment Agency, or the equivalent body in Wales or Scotland. Householders have a duty to check, and can be fined if waste they handed over is fly-tipped. Show your registration number: customers can look it up on the public register.

On Setout: Add your waste carrier number in the editor and it shows in a strip at the top of your site, ready to check.

  3. A word about nesting birds

It's an offence to damage or destroy an active bird's nest. Say that you check hedges before cutting in spring and summer. It shows customers you know your trade and gives you a reason to reschedule when you find one.

On Setout: Your own wording goes anywhere on your page, and you can change it with the seasons.

  4. Photos of gardens you look after

Before and after photos of a clearance, a striped lawn, a neat hedge line. Take them on your phone as you go. A gallery of real gardens is your best sales tool.

On Setout: Your photos go in a gallery on your site, added from your phone in a few taps.

  5. When you have space

Spring is busy and November is quiet. Say when you're taking on new regulars, so you get enquiries when you can take them.

On Setout: Change your own wording in a minute from your phone, whenever your diary changes.

  6. Easy booking for visits

Let people book a first visit or a quote without phone tag, and let regulars move a visit themselves.

On Setout: Customers pick a service and a time online. You get the booking by email; they get a confirmation and an email reminder.

  7. The villages and towns you cover

Name them. It helps Google show you to people nearby, and it stops enquiries from gardens an hour away.

On Setout: Add your villages and towns in the editor and the Fernfield design lists them as the areas you cover. We also put them in your page title ("Gardener in Harrogate"), so Google can see where you work.

How it works

  1. Tell us about your business

Fill in the form below. We'll call you the same working day, weekdays, if you ask before 3pm. Ask after 3pm or at the weekend and we'll call you the next working day. Send us your current website or Facebook page, a few photos, your services and the area you cover. One phone call is usually enough.

  2. We build it

We build your site on a design made for gardeners, with your services, your area, your reviews and a way for customers to reach you. It's usually ready within a couple of days.

  3. You see it on your phone before you pay

We send you a private link. Look at it on your phone, show it to whoever you like and tell us what to change. You pay nothing until it goes live.

Questions gardeners ask us

How quickly can you build a website for my gardening business?

Usually within a couple of days of our call. Send us your services, your prices, photos of gardens you look after and the area you cover. You see the site on your phone before you pay anything.

Can customers book regular visits online?

Yes. Customers pick a service and a time; you get the booking by email and they get a confirmation and an email reminder before each visit.

Can I show my waste carrier number?

Yes. We put it where customers look for it, so they can check it on the public register before they hire you.

I already get work from Checkatrade or a Facebook page. Do I need a website as well?

Keep them both. Directories send you enquiries and Facebook keeps regulars in touch, but neither is yours. A website on your own address is where Google sends people who search for your trade and town, where a customer checks you out before they ring and where enquiries come straight to you with no fee per lead. Your Facebook page and your website can link to each other.

Can I change things myself when the seasons change?

Yes, from your phone. Click what you want to change and type, the way you'd send a text. Or tell us and we'll change it for you.

What does it cost, and is there a contract?

£39 a month including VAT, or £390 for the year. That's for the whole business, with hosting, security and your web address included, and no setup fee. There's no contract, so you can cancel any time, and if it isn't right for you we'll refund your first payment in full within 30 days. You pay nothing at all until your site is live.

Tell us about your business. We'll build your site and send you the link to see it before you pay.

We'll call you the same working day, weekdays, if you ask before 3pm. Ask after 3pm or at the weekend and we'll call you the next working day. There's nothing to pay until your site is live.
