Accountants: Setout builds a website where new clients book a first call.
£39 a month including VAT. Your domain's included, you can cancel any time and you pay nothing until it's live.
A sole trader looking for an accountant has usually just had a shock: a tax bill they didn't expect, a letter about Making Tax Digital, or a business that has grown past the spreadsheet. They search, open a few practices' websites and choose the one that seems to understand people like them, says what it costs and makes the first conversation easy.
Setout builds that website for you, on a design made for accountants. Visitors say whether they're a sole trader, a landlord, a contractor or a limited company before they get in touch, so you know who's asking. They book a first call online at a time that suits you both, and get an email reminder the day before. Your fees, your services and your team are all on the page, and you see the whole site on your phone before you pay a penny.
What every accountant's website needs
Whoever builds your website, these seven things turn a visitor into a new client. Use them as a checklist for the site you have now.
Who you work with
Sole traders, landlords, contractors, limited companies, charities: say which, in those words. People choose an accountant who already works with businesses like theirs, and a page that names them gets read.
On Setout: The Accountant design asks visitors which of these they are before they get in touch, and each kind of client can have its own service page.
Fixed fees, or a clear guide to them
Most people fear an accountant's bill more than the tax. A guide price for a sole trader's Self Assessment return or a small company's year-end accounts, with what's included, takes that fear away and saves you quoting for people who were never going to pay it.
On Setout: Each service has its own price and description, and can have its own page on your site, such as "self assessment accountant Leicester".
Making Tax Digital, explained for your clients
Since April 2026, sole traders and landlords with qualifying income over £50,000 have had to keep digital records and send HMRC quarterly updates. The threshold drops to £30,000 in April 2027 and is due to drop to £20,000 in April 2028. People search for this. A plain page explaining who it affects and how you help wins that search.
On Setout: Write it as a blog post or a service page from your phone, and change it when the rules change.
Your professional body and supervision
Name your body, such as ICAEW, ACCA, AAT or CIOT, and who supervises you for anti-money laundering. Each body has rules on how a firm may describe itself, so check yours before using "chartered" in a headline.
On Setout: Your memberships go in your about section and, on designs with a highlights strip, in a line of badges across the page.
An easy first conversation
A free 20-minute call is the usual first step. Let people book it without a round of emails, at a time you have actually kept free.
On Setout: Make the first call a bookable service. Clients pick a time, you get the booking by email and they get a confirmation and an email reminder.
Deadline reminders that bring people back
31 January for Self Assessment, 31 July for the second payment on account, 5 October to register. A short email before each deadline keeps you in mind when it matters.
On Setout: Visitors can sign up for your emails on your site, and you send newsletters to them from Setout.
Keep documents where they belong
Your website's job is the first conversation. Bank statements and ID belong in your practice software's secure client portal, not in a contact form, so say where clients will upload them once they've signed up.
On Setout: The enquiry form asks for a name, contact details and a message, and emails it to you. It isn't built for documents, and it doesn't pretend to be.

Questions accountants ask us
How quickly can you build a website for my practice?
Usually within a couple of days of our call. Send us your services and fees, your team and the area you cover. You see the site on your phone before you pay anything.
Can clients book a first call online?
Yes. Make it a service with how long it takes. Clients pick a time, you get the booking by email and they get a confirmation and an email reminder.
Can I send deadline reminders to clients?
Yes, to anyone who has signed up for your emails on your site. Write the email in Setout and send it, or schedule it for later.
Can clients upload their documents through the website?
No. Keep documents in your practice software's secure portal. Your website brings the enquiry; your software handles the paperwork.
Most of my clients come by word of mouth. Do I need a website?
Word of mouth brings the best clients, and many of them look you up before they get in touch. A website on your own address is what they find: what you do, what it costs, who you are and how to book. It's also where Google sends people who search for what you do in your town.
What does it cost, and is there a contract?
£39 a month including VAT, or £390 for the year. That's for the whole business, with hosting, security and your web address included, and no setup fee. There's no contract, so you can cancel any time, and if it isn't right for you we'll refund your first payment in full within 30 days. You pay nothing at all until your site is live.
